What People are Saying

  • Numeralia’s centerpoint is vocalist Sheena Colbath, whose voice, at time, is slightly reminiscent of The Kick Inside era Kate Bush.

  • The Numeralia’s lovely singer Sheena Colbath acknowledges in the thank you’s of the band’s Deep Breath CD the inspiration she received from the likes of Elizabeth Fraiser — the resemblance is indeed there. However, unlike many of the dark ensembles out there staking claim on angelic vocals, (and very much like the best work from the Cocteau Twins, such as in the "Skating Song") Numeralia manages to apply the potential of Sheena’s voice to a variety of moods.

Numer - who?

The name Numeralia is Latin for any type of prayer bead such as Mala, the Rosary or Greek Kombolói (worry beads).  When selecting a band name Sheena was attracted to the idea of music as a way to process and soothe anxiety, like the worry beads her mother used. Sheena said about her choice, "Music is also a form of mathematics linking body, mind and soul.  Prayer beads, or numeralia, engage the body through touch, link the mind through chant and connect the soul to the divine while counting a beat on the beads."
